What is Ollie Steele's relationship to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center?
Ollie Steele is organized as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Our Lady of the Lake. Within the corporation, we own and operate two nursing facilities, Ollie Steele Burden Manor and St. Clare Manor.

Does a person have to be Catholic to live at Ollie Steele?
Ollie Steele Burden Manor welcomes residents of all faiths. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, handicap, veteran status, or marital status.

What types of religious services are available?
We provide Catholic Mass and non-denominational protestant services for the residents of Ollie Steele.

Does Ollie Steele have a Medicare Skilled Unit?
Yes. Our Medicare Skilled Unit is available to residents who require this type of therapeutic program. Contact the Ollie Steele admissions office at (225) 926-0091 to make a referral or to request criteria for admission.

What is required for admission to Ollie Steele Burden Manor?
A potential resident's current primary care physician will provide clinical information before admit. These items include:

  • a signed and dated statement of medical status or 90-L form
  • a current chest x-ray
  • a current TB test
  • a current urinalysis
  • a current CBC result

The resident or resident sponsor will complete an admissions packet and provide us with a copy of a living will (if in existence), a copy of power of attorney (if in existence), and a copy of the front and back of Medicare and insurance cards. Everything will be turned in to the admissions department and reviewed in advance of your desired admission date.

Can I keep my same primary care physician?
We always have an open door to area physicians who want to attend to their patients at Ollie Steele. Physicians who do not currently make rounds at Ollie Steele may sign an attending physician agreement. If it is not possible to have your current physician attend at Ollie Steele, our Medical Director, who specializes in internal medicine, will oversee care. Physicians must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Louisiana and carry attending privileges at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in order to make rounds at Ollie Steele.

Are all rooms private?
We offer semi-private rooms as well as private rooms.

Is there a special area for patients with Alzheimer's and for those with dementia?
Yes.

Does the facility accept Medicaid patients?
We are unable to accept Medicaid patients at this time.
