Improving Quality at Our Lady of the Lake

Our Lady of the Lake reports information on hospital performance related to healthcare processes through Hospital Compare.

We have made a significant investment in the following areas and continue improvements:

  • Technology - Our caregivers and multidisciplinary teams use state-of-the-art software technology and clinical information systems to reinforce patient safety throughout the organization.
  • Scanning system - OLOL has also implemented bar-coding, a scanning system that helps nurses ensure the right medication is given to the right patient and provide a reliable reminder system to enhance communication between care teams.
  • Physician Involvement - Physicians are involved in every aspect of the hospital's quality initiatives and lead teams to address processes, make recommendations for improvement and guide implementation.

Reporting Quality

We participate in several national initiatives for the public reporting of quality measures. Good information helps patients to make informed decisions about their healthcare choice. But, because there is no single national standard or benchmark rating system, information about quality is not always consistent or easily comparable.

In response, Our Lady of the Lake publishes an annual Quality Report where we publish our quality measures on accepted national standards. We then compare our date to national benchmarks. Our goal is to give you an understanding of how we rate when compared to others.
