Pharmacy Residency Program

PGY1 Residency Purpose Statement

PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on pharmacy education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication- related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program at Our Lady of the Lake provides residents with an opportunity to deliver evidence-based, cost-effective care in unit-based and multidisciplinary settings. Leadership and project management skills are honed through participation in practice-based research as well as departmental and organizational quality improvement initiatives. Residents completing the program are prepared to pursue PGY-2 residency training and attain clinical positions in institutional settings.

The PGY-1 program is a 12-month learning experience dedicated to:

  • Improvement of the medication use process
  • Provision of evidence-based patient-centered medication therapy management in multidisciplinary settings
  • Leadership and practice management development
  • Enhancement of medication safety and therapeutic outcomes
  • Development of sustainable pharmacy practice and educational models
