LINX® Reflux Management System

If lifestyle changes and medications have not been effective in managing your gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), your doctor might recommend the LINX® Reflux Management System as an alternative treatment.

What Is the LINX® Reflux Management System?

The LINX® Reflux Management System is a ring consisting of small magnets that a surgeon places around the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). When the ring experiences significant pressure, whether it be from food moving down into the stomach or gas or vomit moving upwards, the magnets separate. However, the small amount of pressure that allows acid to travel out of the stomach is not enough to cause the magnets to move, meaning the acid stays in place.

Meet the Surgeons Group of Baton Rouge's four surgeons who implant the LINX® Reflux Management System:

Mark G. Hausmann, MD, FACS, FASMBS

After earning his medical degree from the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, Dr. Hausmann completed his internship and residency in general surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Dr. Hausmann is board certified in general surgery and has a special interest in minimally invasive and robotic surgeries, particularly focusing on acid reflux and bariatrics.

John M. Lyons, III, MD, FACS

After earning his medical degree from the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, Dr. Lyons completed a research fellowship in cancer angiogenesis and a clinical fellowship in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Lyons performed the first robotic-assisted liver resection in Southeastern Louisiana using the da Vinci® Surgical System, and he maintains a special interest in melanoma, sarcoma, and complex malignancies of the hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal tracts.
