Stretta

If lifestyle changes and medications have not been effective in managing your gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), your doctor might recommend Stretta® as an alternative treatment.

What Is Stretta®?

This non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure uses low-power, low-temperature radiofrequency energy to stimulate the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) and gastric cardia. This energy causes the LES to thicken, leading to a stronger sphincter and fewer periods of LES relaxation. It’s performed in an outpatient setting and takes 60 minutes or less. Patients generally return to normal activities the following day.

Stretta® is an excellent option for patients that have failed or are intolerant of drug therapy, offering an alternative to invasive surgery or foreign implants. In clinical trials, up to 93% of patients were satisfied with the outcome of their procedure. With over 15 years of data and testing, Stretta® is by far the most widely studied of any new treatment option for GERD, with studies showing a high rate of long-term effectiveness and durability without the complication rates or costs.

It significantly reduces or eliminates the need for medications and is an option for people who have had the gastric bypass procedure. Elizabeth Bollinger, MD, is the only physician performing Stretta® in the Ascension area.
