NICHE Program

Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center has been recognized for quality and commitment to ongoing care of the elderly. The hospital earned the NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Health System Elders) designation from The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing at New York University College of Nursing. This means elderly patients at Our Lady of the Lake can expect a higher level of care from a nursing team specifically trained to recognize and treat specific health conditions that affect the elderly. Need to Know by NICHE

NICHE recognizes that patients and family caregivers are key members of the healthcare team. NICHE has developed a number of useful tools and resources for patients and their families to help them cope with hospitalization and communicate better with the healthcare team.

The "Need to Know" series is an effort to meet the important information needs of older adult patients and their families. These informational sheets, written in simple, easy-to-understand terms, help prepare people for the realities of hospitalization and nursing home transition. The Need to Know" series is made available to the public through the NICHE network.
